Additionally, Alsop’s discography comprises more than 200 titles, including a John Adams collection with the Vienna RSO for Naxos that has just received a 2025 Grammy nomination for “Best Orchestral Performance.”
About The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra
Founded in 1933, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) has been a cornerstone of the Miami Valley’s cultural landscape for nearly a century. Led by Artistic Director Neal Gittleman, its 90 exceptional musicians bring classical masterpieces to life while embracing bold, innovative programming. In 2012, the DPO merged with the Dayton Opera and Dayton Ballet to form the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA)—the nation’s first collaboration of its kind. This groundbreaking union has enriched Dayton’s thriving arts scene, offering audiences an unparalleled fusion of symphonic, operatic, and dance performances.
About The Sarajevo Philharmonic
The Sarajevo Philharmonic (SP) stands as the first professionally run symphonic orchestra in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 1923, it has served as a cornerstone of culture and a vital musical institution for Sarajevo and the entire country. Throughout the decades, in a setting where the severity of societal events has resulted in a devastating impact on cultural circumstances, the SP has had to write new chapters of its history multiple times.
Even today, the Sarajevo Philharmonic persists in pursuing the objectives established at the outset of its journey, thereby maintaining its status as a prominent beacon in the cultural tapestry and undoubtedly one of the most significant facets in the ongoing musical life in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The SP celebrated its centennial with a Gala Concert held at the Sarajevo National Theatre in October 2023, featuring the renowned Maestro Riccardo Muti. The previous season concluded with a concert conducted by one of the finest, esteemed Maestro Zubin Mehta, marking exactly 30 years since he conducted the Sarajevo Philharmonic in the ruins of the destroyed City Hall in 1994.
In May 2025, the Sarajevo Philharmonic will mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, a significant milestone in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by performing the CONCERT FOR PEACE in collaboration with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
